Monochromatica: Can you tell us about your  school?

Iridescent: Liverpool John Moores University School of Art and Design. My course was BA(hons) Fashion
and Textile Design. The Art School is renowned for it's
highly creative and experimental approach to art and design, with a strong grounding in fine art. Students
are encouraged to develop their own, very personal
approach to design solutions and are given a broad scope to work within. This attracted me initially
because I had my own strong ideas of the approach
I wished to make to my work and I embraced the freedom of scope that they offered. For my specialism
there were approximately 15 places on the course,
so I felt very fortunate to secure a place there. Attaining a university place in your desired area and at your
desired school can be a difficult undertaking in Britain!
Naturally, due to the nature of study at my school I was
fortunate to be surrounded by many like-minded people, which is a great source of inspiration and
stimulus for creativity. I made many friends and
worked in collaboration with other students during my 3 years there. Many of the teaching staff at the school have a history with the University, several of them being ex- students themselves. This serves to continue the "school style" which has become recognizable on an international level. Regular participation in European trade events has built up a reputation for leading edge design in fashion and textiles for the students at Liverpool, and as a result many graduates have secured positions internationally with leading companies.
