M: Who
is Arthur Wrackham?
I: Arthur Wrackham was an illustrator in the late
Victorian Art Nouveau period. He illustrated
"Alice in Wonderland" in 1907. His other works included
illustrations for "A Midsummer Night's
Dream", "Aesop's Fables" and the "Mother
Goose"
Nursery Rhymes. He also illustrated operas from Wagner and Malory's
"Mort d'Arthur". His work was
unlike that of anyone else of the period. Dark and sinister enchanted
forests, angelic children and
beautifully detailed fairy folk. He had a unique way of depicting
the suggestion of personality in both
animate and inanimate objects with exquisite detail and sense
of pattern. A wonderfully fluent drawing
style, I am honored that a tutor of mine compared
my style to this!
