2. In addition to your movie career, you are a prolific writer. How do you write? Are you a creature of the night? Are you a morning writer? Where do your ideas come from? Wonderful question. Wish I had a wonderful answer. When I told my Madka that I wanted to be an actor she insisted that I take a secretarial course. Marvelous training for the acting profession and highly recommended. Result was that I write faster than I think - as anyone who has read any of my books will know. I guess this means that I just sit down like anyone else would read a book and instead of reading I let my fingers do the talking. I'm not even sure that I ever really think about what I'm going to write. I've got a marvelous researcher. I just say, 'What do you think of..... for a book?' Before I know it he's buried under a pile of books and emerges with all sorts of goodies. I ring my publisher and say "What about......" and hopefully he says "yes." And I just write it when I'm not doing anything else. I think I've been incredibly lucky. I've got a publisher who indulges me and a researcher who takes the strain. My contribution is flying fingers and a limited supply of the Queen's English. And, of course, an editor who can make sense out of my rambling. You know, reading back over that I sound just like Sally Field accepting an Oscar. |
